Birds and mammals of Manu

Recommendations

If you enjoy observing wildlife, you should take note of the following recommendations:

Avoid endangering wild animals during your observation. Remember that the well being of the animals is paramount in Protected areas.

Limit the use of recordings and other methods to attract birds, especially in threatened ecosystems.

Use as little artificial light as possible, ideally using flashlights just to move around in the dark.

Be aware of and respect all of the guidelines and rules for visitors to Manu National Park and ensure that your tourist company and guide also respect them.

It is prohibited to camp on the beaches of the Manu river. These are nesting and feeding grounds for many species, including numerous migratory birds.

If you find an interesting species, especially in burrows or nests, evaluate the potential disturbance or impact you might cause before you point it out to others.

Use only the existing trails, thereby reducing the impact of walking through habitat.

Respect private property and only enter with the permission of the owner.

If you are witness to any type of behaviour that is against the rules, evaluate the situation and intervene in the most polite way possible. Should you judge it appropriate, please inform the authorities at any of the park ranger’s stations.
